Dance tends to be a high-brow medium inaccessible for people new to the art of dance. We all have bodies that move to and from work, all have minds that crave beauty, and all have spirits that need to be lifted. Dance does all of the above! How hard can it be to fall in love with dance?
Pascal Rekoert, Artistic Director

Pascal Rekoert - who performs with Jennifer Muller/THE WORKS - heads Flexicurve. His work entitled FLIGHTLESS BIRDS opened the programme. Set against a video montage from the Z Collective, FLIGHTLESS BIRDS is performed to a narrative score by Laurie Anderson. The topics covered range from the end of the world to the velocity of sperm, to which Pascal has devised witty and iconic/ironic  vignettes interspersed with pure lyric dance excellently performed by a strong troupe of dancers. Although this might sound like the type of work I wouldn't normally enjoy (lots of spoken text, which I usually find alienating) Pascal and his dancers transformed it into an absorbing visual experience.
